Does this sound natural

"As of Emacs 28.1, there is no need to set the "Noto Color Emoji" font explicitly.

Context:
By set I mean to configure Emacs to use that font. By "as of" I mean "since" or "starting from"

"As of" seems less than crystal clear to me. Better would be "With Emacs version 28.1 and later, there is no need to set ...".

Note my corrections above. Your actual question ("Does this sound natural?") should appear only in the main body of the post, not in the title.

Thank you. Does this version sound correct?

There is no need to set the "Noto Color Emoji" font for Emacs version 28.1 and later.

Is there no need to set it because it's the default font or because it won't work?

It's the default font.

In that case, I wouldn't mention "There is no need to ..." at all. Simply say "Noto Color Emoji is the default font for Emacs v28.1 and later".

Sorry. I was wrong. It is not the default, but it is used by default.

The Noto Color Emoji font is used by default by Emacs v28.1 and later.

Does that sound right?

No. I have no idea what you're talking about now.

I mean the font is used by default if it's installed. Emacs picks up the font by default when available, but it's not the default font. It is only used for displaying emojis.

Nope. I'm still confused. Are you sure it's actually a font?

This is what the release note of Emacs 28.1 says:
Improved support for Emoji.
On capable systems, Emacs now correctly displays Emoji and Emoji
sequences by default, provided that a suitable font is available to
Emacs.

If your system lacks a suitable font, we recommend to install "Noto
Color Emoji"; Emacs will use it automatically if it's installed.

In this case "The Noto Color Emoji font is used by default by Emacs v28.1 and later" sounds proper. Right?

It's the default font for that purpose. .
