What does the following in red mean?

Guardians are sensing-judging people who don't tend to lie well. ..... The sensing-perceiving artisans "get you in the ballpark of the truth," according to Deborah Singer Dopson.

Thank you.

Then in other words, is it saying the artisans "get you closer to the truth, although it may not be exactly the truth"?

Yes- they get you into the right area, but maybe not to the exact final truth.

This terminology appears to be from David Keirsey's work with results from the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator test. Kiersey broke the 16 possible types into four groups of four. The four groups are called Guardian, Rational, Idealist, and Artisan. This phrase deals with two of those groups. These sentences suggest that Guardians are more honest than Artisans, but that Artisans come close.

Yes. I'm not reading David keirsey's work, but the author is citing the book <<Please Understand Me>> by David kiersey and Marilyn Bates.

Please use inverted commas (' or ") round book titles — not << >>.
