Would you tell me please if I am correect that there is an error in the sentence, namely that the "that" should be removed?

If I had been proofreading that I would have deleted "that" there. However, it's not a major error. What do I mean by that? It doesn't cause any confusion. (People tend to simply discount things they know shouldn't be there.)
