[Grammar] Besides

Hello everybody.

Please help me explain the wrong of the first sentence:

1.It was sports that are enjoyed by most Americans besides movies and music. ->Incorrect.
2.Besides movies and music, sports are that enjoyed by most Americans. -> Correct.

I think that the first sentence would be correct if I re-wrote like that:

-It was sports that are enjoyed besides movies and music by most Americans.

Because "besides" is an adverb, it should (or must?) be placed near the verb "enjoyed", is it right?

Please correct me if I am wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.
