I'm not going to make claims about their place in the world rankings, but the set of "English Grammar in Use" books by Raymond Murphy are certainly very popular among the teachers here.

(1) If you are interested in American English, I also recommend Mr.

Raymond Murphy's books:

(a) His explanations are short and clear.

(b) He gives you plenty of exercises to do.

(c) He lets you buy the book with the answers -- if you wish to.

I prefer Grammar In Use. This book is the best I think. Good luck ....
