Bob sat in the shadow of the imposing statue of the former prime minister, trying to focus on his book, but the rage was boiling inside him. He hated the statue and the man it represented, because under his government his father had lost his job, became depressed and committed suicide. Bob dreamed about returning in the night with a sledgehammer and smashing the statue to smithereens.

Thank you for your correction. I made a mistake again when using an article by using "the" instead of "a". It should be "of a former prime minister."

You could get around it by naming him in the first sentence and then using "He hated the statue and the former prime minister ..."
