Hi, here's a multiple choice that confused me:

A wounded soldier brought ___.
A) the news of victory to all the people in town
B) for us the news of victory
C) to us the news of victory
D) the news of victory for us

The answer is "A".
Why "A"? Can't I say bring the news for us; or bring to/for us the news? I totally can't tell which is correct among these four answers and why correct. Please help!

They are all grammatically possible. "A" is probably the most natural but it's a poor test question.

As an NES but not a teacher:

I agree with Bhaisahab that A is the "best of a bad bunch". It also explains the term "us" .
With B & C, I believe the "to/for" is unnecessary.
In D, the "for" can't be omitted but it feels a bit "clunky" to me.
