Please forgive me if it's a silly question.

Do you 'build a snowman' or 'make a snowman'?

Either. I usually say "build".

Is there any particular reason that you tend to use 'build' instead of 'make'?

Cause it's built up of pieces. Normally three balls of snow of decreasing size.
 
I prefer 'make a snowman' as I am not using building materials.
 
I use "build" because that is what I've always heard. What one has always heard is a big factor in how one chooses vocabulary.
