Hi teachers.

Now in China, if one building complex reports one confimed case of the coronavirus, this whole building would be put into quarantine for 14 days, though people inside never get infected. My first question, if my building reports one case, is it natural to say "My building complex is under quarantine". I'm not sure if "building complex" and my latter part of the sentence is natural. My second question is, after 14 days, the building will no longer be in the state of quarantine. Is it natural to say "My building complex is out of quarantine".

Both sentences are correct and natural.

Both sentences are correct and natural.

I still have some questions. I looked up "building complex", it means "a group of building". The place I live has six building altogether and we have a name "XX Garden". But here I want to say only my building is under quarantine. What can I say to refer to this single building?

I also looked up the word "quarantine" and it seems that "in quarantine" is simpler than "under quarantine". And "stops being quarantined" is better than "out of quarantine".

May I have your opinion?

I almost commented that it seemed excessive to place a whole complex under quarantine. Quarantining a single building seems much more likely — and "building" is the word you're looking for.

I think under works better for buildings, ships, cities, and other large agglomerations. I'd say that a person had been placed in quarantine.

I'm sorry. I'm a bit impatient. When I was waiting for your answer, I asked the difference between "building" and "building complex" on WR. I really want to know if there's a difference. Here's the link.

I also asked another similar question but with totally different conext; it's not against the rules on either side.

So, these two are better. Am I right?

My building is under quarantine.
My building is out of quarantine.

This one is not good "My building stops being quarantined".

Your conclusions are correct.

While I agree 'out of quarantine" works, I think you're just as likely to hear "no longer under quarantine".

It is a common term where I am from, to refer to mass, low-rise, repetitive housing.
