[From the game Disney's Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse]

(Narrator) Mizrabel was dazed, but for how long? Suddenly, Mickey had an idea what if he launched the Rainbow Gem at the witch? It might be his one and only chance.

Mickey: Take that!

(Narrator) Time seemed to freeze for a moment before the gem burst into a cascade of rainbow light filling every inch of the Tower.

Mizrabel: NOOOO!!! – But I wanted to be the fairest of them all ....

(Narrator) It was the cruel witch’s turn to be trapped and powerless, encased in the spreading light. The terrible spell was broken. Minnie was free at last, and Mizrabel wilted and shriveled back to her true form.

Why is the green text in the past tense?

I assume that the "want" means "should" or "ought to" (from here) and that it is in the past simple to suggest "it is impossible for me now" (because of Mickey's action).

Is that right?

Where is the green text?

No.

It's the normal past tense of want (= wish, desire, etc).

Thank you. So:

The "want" is the normal past tense of want (= wish, desire, etc). It suggests "it is impossible for me now" (because of Mickey's action).

:)
