What does the phrase "by the minute" mean here?

Edgar couldn't get the box open, and it was making him angrier by the minute.

Good morning, Ferdie.

I think it means that his anger rose higher and higher as each minute

passed. If he was a little angry at 9:30, then he was super angry by 9:45.

In other words, with each passing minute, he was getting angrier and

angrier.
