Hello, I have always heard people saying "Bye, guys" to girls.

Is it a common thing to refer to girls as "guys"

It is common to ADDRESS them as guys. It's not common to REFER to them as guys.

OKay, guys, see you soon. -- Direct address. Okay.
I was hanging out with a bunch of guys last night. -- Reference. NOT okay.

I always say "hey guys" to a group of anyone (that is, if I'm friendly with them), even if all women. I probably would not use "guy" referring to a single woman. Then again, I never say "hey guy" to any individual.

I can't imagine ever saying "Hey guys" to anybody, male or female.
