Can "diploma work" and "diploma thesis" be used interchangeably?

Hi,
I have some questions.

1. Is there any difference between "Diploma Work" and "Diploma Thesis"?
2. I am wondering if "Diploma Work" and "Diploma Thesis" can be used interchangeably?

Such as:
1) Subject of the diploma work: [title]
2) Subject of the diploma thesis: [title]

Probably there is a difference, and probably they cannot be used interchangeably. But perhaps there are contexts where my two statements are wrong. Can you provide more context?

By the way, a thesis is normally required only for an advanced academic degree. A mere diploma is very unlikely to require a thesis.
