NOT A TEACHER

Hello, Sash:

(1) If you say I am, then you need to follow with an -ing word:

I am always reviewing my grammar (in order) to strengthen my

understanding of English.

(I do not think that "strengthen my weakness" is correct. That

means that you want to make your weakness stronger. Of course,

you do not want to do that!!!)

(2) I always review grammar (in order) to strengthen my understanding

of English.

(3) You cannot say "I am review ...."

Sincerely yours,

James

Thank you very much

Can't I say:
I am always reviewing my grammar to strengthen my points of weakness

I always review my grammar to strengthen my points of weakness

Thank you very much

NOT A TEACHER

Hello, Sash.

(1) I apologize for not explaining more clearly.

(2) "To strengthen" = to make stronger.

(a) Therefore, "to strengthen (my points of) weakness"

means that you wish to make your (points of) weakness

stronger. But you do not want to make your weakness stronger,

do you? Don't you wish to lessen or reduce your (points of)

weakness?

(3) If you still do not understand, please let us know. Some of the

teachers will do a better job than I in explaining it.

You are an excellent learner. Keep asking until someone gives you

an answer that satisfies you.

Sincerely,

James

Thank you very much

Can't I say:
I am always reviewing my grammar to strengthen my points of weakness

"am always reviewing" - a temporary, repeated action. (logical to me)

I always review my grammar to strengthen my points of weakness

"always review"- a non-stop permanent action. (illogical to me)
(Not a teacher)

My apology for chipping in.

Thank you very much

Hello,

Hello,
Can I say:

I am thinking in someone/ something
I am thinking in work (I mean the intention to work as a teacher for example)

I am thinking about...
I am thinking of...

I am thinking about working as a teacher.
I am thinking of my sister who has a difficult exam today.

The only time I can imagine using "think in" would be, for example "I'm thinking in Spanish". That means the thoughts that are going through my head are in the Spanish language, instead of the English language.

Thank you
Is it necessary to use "think about" for things
and "think of" for people?

Thank you
Is it necessary to use "think about" for things
and "think of" for people?

Not necessarily, no. Those were just the two examples I randomly chose.

We are, however, more likely to use "thinking about" for a lot of things.

I'm thinking about going to China.
I'm thinking about changing my job.
I'm thinking about John's problem with his car.
I'm thinking about that programme I watched on TV last night.
I'm thinking about a lot of things.
I was thinking about Sarah yesterday and trying to work out how to help her with her assignment.

There is one instance where "thinking of" is more likely - when we are expressing our sympathy or condolences to someone. Quite specifically, when someone dies we might send a card or a message to a relative of the deceased and might use "I am thinking of you". It does of course mean "I am thinking about you" but it conveys are more sympathetic emotion.

So I can say both
I am thinking of work
I am thinking about work

So I can say both
I am thinking of work
I am thinking about work

You can but in this particular example, "thinking about" would be much more common. It's a difficult one to explain - I think there have been other threads about it. It's very much a case ofl intuition and just "knowing" which one to use appropriately for different scenarios.

So I can say both
I am thinking of work
I am thinking about work

So I can say both
I am thinking of work
I am thinking about work

Yes
Excuse me
there is a problem in the net
Thank you very much

Can I say
Today I am fasting/ I will fast/ I will be fasting/ I am going to fast

Tomorrow I am fasting/ I will fast/ I will be fasting/ I am going to fast

I think it would be a good idea if you started a new thread now for a new question, otherwise your questions will be lost in this very long "Can I say...?" thread.
