Do these sentences read well?

The process of converting the coconut fiber into liquid fuel can not only generate energy but also contribute to the local market and decrease the amount of waste thrown to the environment.

Yes, that is fine. But we don't throw waste to the environment.

I would simply say "decrease the amount of waste generated" or "waste that ends up in landfills."
