[General] Can we say "buildings are being erected"?

Can we say buildings are being erected, instead of "Buildings are being constructed or built". Would it sound natural if I say so?

Yes, you can say that.
 
You can say it, but it doesn't sound that natural to me.
 
They erect skyscrapers, don't they?
 
It sounds more natural to me with skyscrapers.
