Can you say:

Catching up with family and friends sounds like a pretty good time to me.

VS


Catching up with family and friends sound like a pretty good time to me.

Should it be sounds or sound?

"Hanging out with family and friends" is a singular subject so the first sentence is right to me.
 
That's right — and so is 'Catching up with family and friends'.
