cast vs gibbs

In Korea, we call "plaster cast" "gibbs", whose spelling I don't know. We just say "gibs". Is it German? I have no idea where it comes from. Maybe a cast manufacturer's name?

M :How long do you have to wear that cast? It must be very uncomfortable...

It's also Polish word (Click here) for plaster but if and only if the plaster is made by adding water to gypsum. I wouldn't say it come to Korean language from German especially if you consider the etymology of the word gypsum : [...] perhaps of Semitic origin (cf. Arabic jibs, [...]
