[Grammar] caused or has caused

Without a specific context, can the verb ‘caused’ be used in place of ‘has caused’ in the sentence below? I think it’s okay but I am unsure.

- It is Jenny’s voice, not her ideas, that has caused the audience to sit up and listen.
