The story of this novel is mainly centred around the Georges and the Stevens.

Is this expression correct?

Are there any alternatives?

Not sure about BrE but AmE would be "centered around".
Alternatives: "is mainly about", "focuses on/upon", "centers on"

For us, 'centred' is OK. I loathe 'centred around' with the intensity of a million Suns, but it's all too commonly used. ;-)
