[Vocabulary] Class vs the class vs the classroom

Hi,

My niece got her term report. For English (she goes to a Flemish here in Brussels) the teacher wrote a note saying:

"You work hard in the class and at home"

Sounds wrong to me with the article

Wouldn't you rather say "in class". Or "the class" if the teacher is referring to the group of pupils. Lastly, he could say "the classroom".

What are your thoughts about this?
