Close the faucet a bit.
The tap was running water, how to ask someone to close it a little bit to make water running become smaller.

Here we would ask someone to turn the water down a little bit.

In contrary, how to ask someone turn the water become bigger?

Say you want to "increase the water flow" or "decrease the water flow" not make it "smaller" or "bigger."

I need more water. We need more water to be flowing. Open up the tap more.

Is it correct to say "turn up/down the tap"?

Usually I say "Dear God - you are wasting water all over the place!" or something like that and they get the message and decrease the flow.
