Is the meaning of "coldie" obvious the world over?

No. I am going to guess that it's some kind of slang for "a cold beer" or something. Am I right?

We do say "I think it's time for a cold one" sometimes but I wouldn't say that everyone would know what it means.

I heard this in an American film and yes, it did mean "a cold beer" there.
