[Grammar] Colloquial Vs. Formal

We often hear sentences like these:


All we can do is hope for the best.

All we can do is try.

All you can do is wait and see.


I believe these are examples of colloquial writing, as the grammatically correct way would involve participles or gerunds, right?

No. They are fine as they are; and they are not particularly informal

All we can do is hoping and waiting? That's not correct.
