When talking about winning a competition, which one is correct?
1. We came first.
2. We came in first.
3. We placed first.
 
They're all possible. Did you think one or more of them might be wrong?
 
All of them lack enthusiasm. "We won!" sums things up nicely.

Thanks a lot. I wasn't sure about "come first". Dictionaries define it as being the most important, e.g. Family comes first.
 
That's one of several meanings.
