Hi,

I am having difficult time to decide how to use this word "commemorate."
I tried using it like this --> They were like the commemorates of the king. --> They commemorated the king.
I'm not so sure which one or if I am right in one of them. Can someone help me?

They were like the commemorates of the king. No, 'Commemorate' is a verb.
They commemorated the king. It's possible in the right context.
There are some examples here.
