This is an exercise from "CPE Practice Tests."

According to the key, it should be "deceptive," however, in my view, "deceiving" also works, analogous to "appearances can be deceiving."

What do you think?

I'd say "Appearances can be deceiving", because it's a common saying, but I'd choose 'deceptive' in the example you've given.
