It's OK in a context that requires a detailed description of someone, though -- like describing a photo.I'd use only "Her bra straps are/were showing" for the photo in post #1. Mind you, it's not the kind of thing people really comment on these days. How people dress should not be the subject of discussion, comment or judgement from others.

However, a story that involves such banality as a detailed description of someone's bra strap showing doesn't strike me as gripping reading.
