Hi!

Is it alright to use is with did sometimes? For example, is "Did you know that his name is James?" grammatically correct?

If it is, is my assumption that it's ok to use "is" with did when talking about universal truths well-founded

Thank you in advance. :)

"Did you know that his name is James?" is correct, assuming two things:

1: The listener did not know before; it might well be that the speaker just told them.
2: "His" name is James, as it was (presumably) since his birth and as will be (also presumably) until his death.

[STRIKE][STRIKE][STRIKE]Thank you in advance. :)[/STRIKE][/STRIKE][/STRIKE] Unnecessary. Just click 'Thank' when you get a useful answer.

Rover, I know I shouldn't say this, but you are simply superb. The "Thank" button wouldn't have been able to send this across.

Keep up the good work.

I hope to.

charliedeut gave a good answer, too.

Yes he did, and I "thanked" him for the answer. :)

I wrote an additional message directed at you for those punctuation-related corrections. I'm quite new to this website, but already a big fan.
