Hello everyone,

I'm trying to understand what the difference between "school director" and headmaster/principal is:

Here is the definition of headmaster:

http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/headmaster?q=headmaster

a male teacher who is in charge of a school, especially a private school

And here is a description of a school director's responsibilities:

http://www.ptsd.k12.pa.us/DirectorResponsibilities.aspx

What does a School Director do for our District?

So is there any difference between school director and headmaster/principal or are these terms interchangeable?

Thank you,

These titles will vary from school to school and district to district.

I haven't heard School Director used in the UK.

Also, I think 'headmaster' is primarily reserved for use with private schools, whereas public schools have principals or superintendents, at least here in the U.S.

School director sounds more like a title for some kind of specialized art/dance/music/craft school versus your basic elementary school.

Not A Teacher

Here in Britain we often use 'headmaster' or 'headmistress' in state schools as well as public schools, it is worth noting that in BrE public school is what we call a private fee paying school like Eaton or Harrow.

A headmaster is defined as being a teacher ...
There is nothing in that advertisement for a director requiring the applicant to be a teacher, and there are several indications that you don't need to be one to be a director.
