My friend wanted me to work in her school. I asked the question "Do I need to teach the class by using English for a whole session?" I don't think it's natural. The intended meaning is "Do I need to speak English only if I teach the students all the time?" Here, usually teachers are bilingual, they speak both English and Chinese when teaching students but some language schools offer "English only" classes.

There are lots of ways to say this. Here's one:

Should I stay in English the whole time?

As always, exactly which words to use depends on the prior context of the dialogue.

Much appreciated. There's no prior context, sorry. I've been thinking about accepting an offer to teach at my friend's language school for a while. I watched a video of her and she spoke English all the time. She told me she wanted me to teach some adults students who are only beginners of this language. So I wanted to make sure if I need to use English to teach all the time because more often than not, teachers of English here speak both Chinese and English to teach.

Is this sentence also natural?

Do I have to use only English when teaching the students?

Should I conduct my classes entirely in English?
In class, are the students allowed to use any language other than English?

I can assure you that it's possible to teach complete beginners without resorting to their native language. On the first day of my TEFL course, our tutor proved this by teaching us all how to count to five, several simple greetings, and how to ask for a kilo of potatoes, all in Romanian, without ever speaking a word of English to us. It took him six minutes. Imagine how much you could do with a longer lesson.
