Do people use the word "trainer head"?

Do people use the word "trainer head" to refer to someone who likes trainers? I know in American English, they use 'sneaker head' but I want to know if the word 'trainer head' is used in BrE.

If the term is not used, what can be used to refer to someone who really likes trainers?

I've never heard it although that doesn't mean it's not used. I don't move in those circles! The problem I can see with it would be that "trainer" can mean "sports shoe" or "person who helps you improve at subject/sport". That might make "trainerhead" a bit confusing.

The only associated usage I know in BrE is "metalhead" - someone who is very keen of heavy metal music.

I suppose that would work. Are you talking about people who just like them or who buy them for a collection? If it's the latter, I'd use "trainer collector".

I've not heard the term myself in AmE, although the suffix 'head' is commonly added to any number of other nouns. Depending on context it can denote single-mindedness, enthusiasm/appreciation, or stupidity.

While I wouldn't be surprised to see the term 'sneakerhead' used, I don't think it's terribly common.

Again, you can add it to almost anything, but that doesn't mean it's widely used or extremely common. It just means most speakers would understand the reference.

Some common examples are 'sh*thead' (insult), Deadhead (Grateful Dead fan), and pothead (someone who over-indulges in marijuana).

Exactly that. They'll often buy with the aim of collecting and/or later reselling. There's a whole culture around it, including conventions, forums, special social media pages, etc.

Check this paper out. It's entitled 'Who Are These Sneakerheads?'. The authors are Jin Woo Choi, Brigitte Cluver, and Minjeong Kim. It has the following sentence in it: "People who collect and wear sneakers with great enthusiasm are called sneakerheads.". To be honest, I was not familiar with this term up until now.
