Hi.

Let's say someone was telling us a story but he kept us suspended. Is it natural to say "Finish the story. Don't suspend us in midair".
 
The phrase is keep someone in suspense.

Finish the story! Don't keep us in suspense!
 
I think the phrase you might be thinking of is 'don't keep/leave us hanging'.
