This is an example sentence from a TOEFL speaking book(published in Korea, Korean author).

Some people don't like living in the dorms.

There is no context. If the sentence means the general idea that there are some who don't want to be in dormitories, is it okay to say "the dorms"?
I thought "dorms" is right in it (because the word doesn't indicate some specific dormitories) , so I don't know why it says "the dorms".

Are you absolutely sure that the original omitted the word "in" before "the dorms"?

Also, "a TOEFL speaking book" isn't enough information. You must tell us the title and the author(s).

I am sorry for the omission, my mistake. Later I corrected it, and I also provided the information that the book was published in Korea and the author is Korean. The title of the book is Hackers TOEFL Speaking and the author is David Cho.
