What is the meaning of "double ticket"? If "single ticket" means "A single ticket is a ticket for a journey from one place to another but not back again. The price of a single ticket is thirty-nine pounds" according to google does "double ticket"refer to a ticket for a journey from one place to another and back again?

Where have you come across double ticket?

That's a return ticket in BrE.

It was in one of my English textbooks, but I can't find it. :-|

Please keep looking.

I'd love to know in which variety of English a double ticket means a return ticket or a round-trip ticket.

I found it! It's from "English File" by Christina Latham-Koenig and Clive Oxenden.

A: "Could I have a ticket to Heathrow Airport, please?"

B: "Single or double?"

I am surprised. I have never heard/seen 'double' used in this way.

I found the audio for this episode and they use "return" not "double." The scanned text which I was using wasn't written by a native speaker obviously. I checked my textbook and the exercise asks to use the correct word in "Single or....". It's better to use your textbooks not copies you find online. :-|

I can guarantee that nowhere in English File will you find any mention of the incorrect phrase 'double ticket'.
