eclipse and predominate

I was reading a book and I saw this sentence :


In his eyes she eclipses and predominates the whole of her sex.

What is the meaning of these two verbs here?
I searched but I couldn't find anything to make the sentence meaningful

What happens when the moon eclipses the sun? It seems like the sun isn't there, or is largely diminished. That is what she does to other women. (It's a metaphor). The man is in love with the women - that's what the words suggest. In this context, 'predominates' - although it's a strange word (but we don't know the rest of the context) - means that to him, she is superior to other women.
