Hello,

I am in the process of getting acquainted with a certificate about an inspection report regarding a copper pipe.

While browsing through it, I came across "elongation by fracture" phrase.

I asked a colleague of mine what he thinks of it and he did not know much about it.

I decided to Google the phrase and found the following definition.

What do you think?

Elongation at Break, also known as fracture strain or tensile elongation at break, is the ratio between increased length and initial length after breakage of the tested specimen at a controlled temperature. It is related to the ability of a plastic specimen to resist changes of shape without cracking.

IMHO, Elongation at fracture would be better, but basically they want to know, 'How much did the pipe stretch before it broke?'

It's basically a scientific way of looking at the damage.
