Hello everyone,

I am not an English native speaker and I am supposed to read and translate an excerpt from Emperor Jones - a play by Eugene O'Neill. There are few sentences I do not understand. Would anyone try to help me please?

1)
I'll git de hide fravled off some o’ you n*ggers sho'! (edit: Sorry about that word, it is in the book like that)
2) Gawd blimey, you was glad enough for me ter take yer in on it when youlanded here first. You didn' 'ave no 'igh and mighty airs in them days!
3) ...a foreign bank where no pusson don't ever git it out but me .
4) SMITHERS [Grinning]: But, meanin' no 'arm, you been grabbin' right and left yourself, ain't yer? Look at thetaxes you've put on 'em! Blimey! You've squeezed 'em dry!
JONES [Chuckling]: No, dey ain't all dry yet. I'se still heah, ain't I?

Thank you! :)

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

What do you mean by "I am supposed to ...". Who is making you do this?

Mostly O'Neill was trying to render the sound of AAVE (African-American Vernacular English), which remains pretty much the same as in O'Neill's day. In other words, it's not a question of modernity of his English usage.
