Encroach on/ Encroach upon

1) None could dare to encroach on his rights.

2) None could dare to encroach upon his rights.

In the above sentences, which preposition is correct to use after encroach?
 
I always use "encroach upon" but it's personal preference.
 
I favour upon too.
