Erosion v/s Abrasion

Dear All,

It is clear that corrosion is a wear caused by chemical action.
Erosion and abrasion are also wears, but both are caused by physical activities.

Are these same and can be used interchangeably or are different.

Not a teacher, am an engineer.

I would reserve "erosion" for actions caused by a fluid.

If it's parts rubbing together, I would say it's "abrasion."

Non-engineers won't think of air as a fluid, though, so let's way by the forces of water (or other liquids) or wind for erosion.

Is that layman-terms-accurate?

Yes, liquids or gases. Including little bits of stuff carried along with them.

If you think about how a very small drip in a crack in a stone, can eventually become like a canyon; that is erosion.
