I read the following sentence:
The farm was crouched on a bleak hillside, where its fields, fanged in flints, dropped steeply to the village of howling a mile away.

What does "fanged in flints" mean here? Thanks

NOT A TEACHER

It seems to be a metaphor for scattered with sharp or pointy stones.
Is howling the name of the village? If so, it should be capitalised.

A million thanks:-D
