"faster" or "sooner"

"The exam will take palce faster than we were told."
is "faster" (or "quicker") a proper word or should there be "sooner"?
 
You need 'sooner' or 'earlier'.
 
Thanks. One more thing about the time, is it ok. to say
"The closest (nearest) exam will take place on Monday."
?
 
The next exam.
 
Any other option?
