Dear teachers and guides,

What is meant by firehouse in the following sentence, please?

"Channels like Twitter and Facebook can start to seem like a firehouse if you don't have a way to focus in on just the people that matter to your business."

Is firehouse here some kind of expression which refers to busy and disorganized places?

Thanks in advance,
Ali

Busy yes, disorganized, no. The word focuses in on the flurry of activity when an alarm goes off in a firehouse.

Thanks a lot, MikeNewYork! A so helpful reply! Although I guessed it could refer to "busyness", was not sure about "disorganized situation". Your answer clarified the meaning. And pointing out "the flurry of activity when an alarm goes off in a firehouse" solved the problem in my mind!

Blessings to you and yours!

In a firehouse, every person knows exactly what he/she must do when a call comes in. Very impressive.
