Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

“Do you know your way, to North Hill across the moor?”
“No, I do not.”
“You only have to follow your nose.”

follow one’s nose = keep straight on

Thanks for your efforts.

Regards,

V

True, but it can have a slightly sarcastic meaning. If you were looking, for instance, for an abbatoir, a coffee factory, a bread factory, a rubbish dump etc, you might say that they are easy to find by simply "following your nose", meaning "Just follow the very strong/terrible smell!"

I knew it as Ems typed. However, I will add the other meaning on my list.

One could also follow other body 'parts', as in 'follow your heart'...'follow your conscience'...'follow your intuition'...'follow your gut feelings', etc.
