Hello,

Could you please tell me which one/s is/are OK for an answer?

-For what vs what for.
-Like what vs what like.
-For who vs who for.
-For whom vs whom for.
-About which vs which about,...etc.

Thanks.

As an answer to what?

A: I studied English for 6 hours yesterday.
B:For what? vs What for?

A:I have bought a gift.
B:For who? vs Who for?

A:I read an essay yesterday.
B:About what? vs What about? ,...etc.

The point is that must we put the preposition before 'who-what-which-whom,...etc or must we put the preposition after them? Which ones are in use?

Both options are OK in your examples.
