[Answered] formal and informal party

Hi teachers,
I just came across this word "formal party". So I think there will be also a word "informal party". These kinds of parties perhaps can be seen only with western culture. Can anyone please explain to me if what kind of parties they are?

A formal affair would involve dressing up in suits or even tuxedos. Nice dresses for the ladies.

An informal party is my friends coming over to my house to eat burgers, drink beer and watch a football game.
