Dear all,

When you describe someone who is looking out the window, but not focusing on anything in particular, which adverb would you use?

1. The passenger was gazing out the window mindlessly.
2. The passenger was gazing out the window absently.
3. The passenger was gazing out the window absent-mindly.
4. The passenger was gazing out the window blankly.

Which one do you think is most common to describe a person who is looking out the window on a train without focusing on anything?

Thank you!

OP

3. The passenger was gazing out of the window absent-mindedly.
This works.
