Playing Birmingham’s Barbarella’s club on 29 May, Crawler vocalist Terry Slesser remembers giving Angus their £50 fee upfront ‘so they could get a curry. I always said if I ever headlined I would give the support act every consideration: full PA, full lights, etc. My manager said, “Sless, while that is very admirable, I’ve seen AC/DC. They really rock and may blow you off the stage.” I said, “No matter”, and of course, AC/DC really did rock.’ Blown off every single night, true to his promise Slesser remained matey with the newcomers. He could not have imagined though under what strange circumstances he would become briefly reacquainted with them again just a few years later.

Does "curry" mean chicken with sauce here? But then the manager says that the band AC DC will blow the band Crawler off the stage because Terry had given him money for curry? Sounds strange.

You're reading a "because" that isn't there.

Indian restaurants are very numerous in the UK, and usually their food is cheap and good. "Get a curry" just means to eat at an affordable restaurant.

They needed money for food so Terry gave them money before they performed instead of after, which is customary.

And also didn't hamstring them by limiting what lights or amplifiers they could use. Again, unusual for a headlining act, especially one who knew their opening act would blow them off the stage.

I can't get the connection. Giving money in advance and getting blown off by the band who you give money to.

Terry's manager advised him not to allow AC/DC a full setup because it will make Crawler look bad by comparison.
You mean "would" there, don't you?
