To be honest, I'm not sure I know what they mean by "exchanging on an even basis". My best guess would be something like me giving you a painting worth £1,000 in exchange for you giving me a car worth £1,000. If that's the kind of thing they're suggesting, I would argue that that's not what "give and take" means!

Dang, there has to be a reason why this definition says that. Can someone from another English speaking country such as the US give their take on this?
Besides, how do you guys feel about "giving and taking" instead(?)?

It's typically used to refer to banter, retorts or even insults, but it can be used to refer to ideas or suggestions. It still doesn't work in the context of the OP.

It still doesn't work in the context of the OP.

Not sure how many times you need to hear from how many natives speakers IT WILL NOT WORK before you accept it.
