Americans are using "go" with the infinitive form more and more often.

I have to go get Jim at the airport.
Why don't you go eat something, if you're so hungry?
Could you please go fetch my phone from the kitchen?

It includes the idea of "leave the spot where you are" and "do this other thing."

Based on what I read in the post above yours, it seems Americans use it that way and it means "leave where I am" and "get Jim."

For me, those three are the same. I would expect to hear "go get Jim" in AmE and "go and get Jim" in BrE. I imagine that "go to get Jim" is perfectly in both but the majority of BrE people say "go and get".
